About Snakes in the Grass (SIG)
“Snakes in the Grass” (SIG) refers, in this context, to corporations and organizations that operate behind masks that make them appear to be benign and even helpful to the environment and society, though they are far from it. Our aim is to expose their real nature by contrasting their own words with other credible material already in the public domain.
Methods:
1. Ferret out SIGs by researching the environmental and social records of suspect corporations and organizations and comparing them with their public persona (the whitewashed and greenwashed faces they show to the world). 2. Expose SIGs on our website by describing their misdeeds and how they hide behind various masks of propaganda. 3. Shame SIGs by staging loud and colourful public demonstrations, using humourous street theatre and other attention-getting techniques, at prominent corporate events such as trade/security summits. We strive to attract public attention to particular corporations, such as those prominent in PNWER (Pacific Northwest Economic Region). These are corporations that satisfy the SIG criteria of being despicable in the areas of environmental destruction and human rights violations, while presenting a whitewashed and greenwashed face to the general public.
